Saturday, July 1 at 12:30 p.m. Animal Rights Program. The New Jersey Animal Rights Alliance stops by as a part of the “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales” summer reading program to discuss their organization and their Feral Cat Program.

A "feral" cat is one who has reverted in some degree to a wild state. They originate from former domestic cats who were lost or abandoned and then learned to live outdoors or in environments involving little human contact, such as warehouses, factories or abandoned buildings. In most cases, feral cats are not completely wild because they still depend on people for their food source, whether it's a caretaker who comes by once or twice a day, a dumpster outside a restaurant, garbage cans, or the like.

Who says computers aren't cool? Computer technician Dena holds down the igloo. As part of the Old Bridge Library "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales" summer reading celebration, the Library has been decorating each department as a different animal habitat. Brrrr! the Reference/Computer department is an Arctic Sanctuary!

Saturday June 10 at 1:30 p.m. Live Jazz with Ralph Bowen Trio. Ralph Bowen leads a crack jazz trio into the Library for an exciting afternoon of music featuring Jared Gold on hammond b3 organ; Michael Baggetta on guitar; and Bowen on drums. Ralph Bowen made his mark on the New York jazz scene in the mid-1980s recording four records for Bluenote as co-leader of OTB-Out of the Blue. He began touring and recording with pianists Horace Silver and Michel Camilo. In the 1990s, Bowen performed and recorded with Renee Rosnes, Hank Jones, Orrin Evans, Jim Beard, Shirley Scott, Benny Carter, and Trudy Pitts. Ralph established what has become a long-term association with bassist Charles Fambrough, recording numerous CDs together in a variety of settings.

Saturday June 3 at 1:30 p.m. The Book of No. Do you feel guilty when your child demands that you launder his soccer uniform immediately? Does an out-of-town friend suddenly want you to clear your calendar for an unexpected visit? Rutgers University social psychologist and teacher Susan Newman, author of The Book of No will speak about her book, which demonstrates workable techniques for helping you just say no. Newman contends that for many people, saying yes to whatever is asked of them is an unhealthy pattern driven by a need for approval, love or admiration, rather than a desire to help.
