Caught Reading: Blood Hunt by Ian Rankin

Scottish mystery writer Rankin is best known for his excellent Inspector Rebus series of dark police procedurals set in Edinburgh. This new series offers up a new hero, survivalist trainer and ex British Special Forces soldier Gordon Reeve. When Reeve's journalist brother James turns up dead in San Diego where he was researching the dealings of a shadowy chemical company, Gordon takes up the challenge of finding the killer, and is soon coming up against crooked cops, private eyes and his own nemesis from his military days. Rankin keeps the adventure kettle at full boil throughout this novel, and fans of his previous books as well as followers of Nelson DeMille and other adventure writers should find a lot to enjoy here.
